Amato Ferrari, owner of top-line sportscar team AF Corse, will enter Formula Renault 3.5 in 2016 with the creation of a new team called Spirit of Race.
AF Corse has a major presence on the GT Open grid, and Jaime Alguersuari Sr's RPM Racing concern recently announced a tie-up with GT Open organiser Jesus Pareja for several rounds of the rebooted FR3.5 Series in 2016.
"Formula Renault 3.5 always attracted me by representing an excellence in the single-seater worldwide competition," said Ferrari, who will be Spirit of Race's team principal.
"I am enthusiastic ahead of this new challenge, where I will bring long term experience and relationships gathered in decades of motor racing activities.
"The level of the series represents a great challenge for me and I will work hard to maintain the same level of performance, [in keeping with] my racing history."
"I would like to thank Mr Alguersuari and RPM for the warm welcome received, and I look forward to starting on track operations."
Alguersuari, added: "It is only four weeks since we accepted the challenge of assuming the property and the responsibility of organising in 2016 a new championship with the current Formula Renault 3.5 single-seater.
"I am proud to announce that Amato Ferrari, a true man of motorsport, has decided to link his talent and the quality of his technical and human organisation to the new project led by RPM.
"His commitment in the new team Spirit of Race guarantees the best quality standards of the new championship for highly-talented drivers and their families."
