West aims to stay out of trouble

The Australian has been drafted in alongside Randy de Puniet for the rest of the season following Olivier Jacque's decision to retire from racing.

And after completing just one day of testing at Barcelona prior to this weekend, West admits he is keeping his ambitions in check for his first race at Donington Park.

"I just want to stay on the bike and do as many laps as possible," he said. "I don't want to do anything crazy. I just want to work my way into it and get up to speed.

"The team are really relaxed about it. They know what they are doing, so all I have to do is ride the bike. That will make things easier with these guys who have a lot of experience."

West, who has been a race winner with Yamaha in the World Supersport 600 championship this year, confessed to being shocked when he first got the call from Kawasaki asking them if he wanted to join them.

"For sure I didn't believe it at first, but I was happy to get the chance to ride the bike even for that one test (in Barcelona). I felt comfortable with the bike, and it was good to work with the team. They are a great bunch of guys. So let's see what happens this weekend."
