Capirossi to try new engine again

Loris Capirossi may try out his revised engine settings once again at Donington Park this weekend after a mixed reception for the new unit at Mugello earlier this month

The Italian was given a revised power-unit at the Italian Grand Prix to try and help improve his feeling on the bike.

But although he felt the settings were much better for his riding style, they also left him down on straightline speed compared to Ducati Marlboro teammate Casey Stoner - especially with Mugello having such a long straight.

He hopes that such a disadvantage will not be a factor at Donington Park this weekend, where he may try the unit once again depending on how the weather conditions pan out.

"It is better, but it is 15km/h slower than the standard one," Capirossi told autosport.com.

"I think we used the engine at the wrong track. For sure we plan to try it again in practice here. We will start with the standard engine and maybe in the afternoon we can test the new one."

Capirossi admits that his aggressive riding style is not best suited to the GP7 bike, and he faces the problem of going slower the more he tries to overcome any difficulties he is having.

"We make a lot of modifications but still the feeling is not 100 percent. I don't like really very much the bike. There is something very difficult.

"I am really aggressive with my riding style, and when I try really hard I go always slower. We have to ride smooth with the bike and this for me is nearly impossible."

Capirossi's hopes of a clear back-to-back test with the engines could be dashed, however, with rain likely to hit most of the opening day's running.

The Italian said he hoped the forecasts for the weekend would not prove correct - with rain set for today and Saturday, and race day dry.

"Well for me it is the same wet or dry. If we have a dry Sunday then we need one day completely dry during the weekend. Sometimes we have two days of rain and then Sunday it is difficult, but it is the same for everybody not just for us.

"Every five minutes the weather changes, but I don't want cold conditions. Then it is very difficult, the first long left downhill is very difficult if it is like that."
