Stoner fastest again at Valencia

Casey Stoner stayed on top of the timesheets on the second and final day of testing at the Valencia circuit, where teams began preparations for the 2008 season

The world champion covered 55 laps with his Ducati to finish nearly four tenths of a second ahead of Honda's Nicky Hayden, again second quickest in the revised RC212V bike.

"We found something extra during these tests," said Stoner. "Straight away yesterday, second lap out, we went a lot quicker than we did in the race on Sunday and we just kept going from there.

"Today we kept getting faster and faster. We weren't really trying to do that, we had a lot of tyres and things to test, so we weren't out there trying to do lap times, but everything just seemed to come to us quite easily.

"It's been a fantastic season for us and it's really good to end this test with some positives and some more information which the Ducati technicians can take back to Bologna, knowing that we've got something more to work with and knowing the right direction in which to head."

Hayden's teammate Dani Pedrosa, winner of last Sunday's race, was fourth quickest after 88 laps of the Spanish circuit.

The Repsol Honda riders were split by Randy de Puniet, who showed he is adapting quickly to Honda machinery following his switch from Kawasaki. The Frenchman was third fastest after 83 laps.

Rizla Suzuki's Chris Vermeulen completed the top five, while new teammate Loris Capirossi finished as seventh fastest on his second day of work with the Japanese team.

Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo was again the fastest of the MotoGP newcomers, in 11th position, while Andrea Dovizioso in the new JiR Team Scot squad and Alex de Angelis in the Honda Gresini finished in 14th and 15th respectively.
