Stoner: Ducati now fast at every track

MotoGP championship leader Casey Stoner thinks Ducati Marlboro's recent step forward in handling should finally silence doubters who claim the GP7 bike is only quick in a straight line

The Australian's early-season victories owed much to the out-and-out speed of his machine, but success at the last race in Catalunya and his speed on race tyres at Donington Park have showed that the Ducati can hold its own on tighter tracks as well.

And ahead of this afternoon's British Grand Prix, Stoner says the bike is in much better shape after adjustments were made to it in Barcelona.

"Since we improved the settings in Catalunya we have gone up one level again," said Stoner, who starts fifth at Donington Park.

"Now it is a little bit more comfortable to ride in all the corners. The braking points we are very happy with and the bike is just working well in every situation.

"Everybody kept saying the same thing: that when we get to a circuit without a straight, things would change. But I was the fastest on the race tyre at this circuit with a very small straight - and without time to set up the bike. So it is not too bad."

Although Stoner has a 14-point cushion in the title chase over nearest rival Valentino Rossi, he insists his approach to the championship is still to take it one race at a time. But he says he is confident that his bike and Bridgestone's tyres will be strong at every event from now on.

"We just have to wait and see how the season goes and how each race goes out for us," he said.  "But I have always known the Bridgestone tyres were good.

"I wasn't afraid to come to this circuit because at other circuits, in every condition, the Bridgestone tyres have been working quite well. I think we can arrive quite fast at every circuit."
