Stoner dominates final day of test
Casey Stoner's domination of the Brno weekend continued through the post-race test, as the championship leader lapped beneath the circuit record while trying new Bridgestone race tyres today
After a quiet morning while the teams waited for the track to dry following overngiht rain, Stoner lapped in 1:57.924 - four tenths of a second quicker than his best lap on the way to victory on Sunday, and two tenths beneath teammate Loris Capirossi's record, set in 2006.
"I'm pretty happy. Today we made a further step forward on bike set-up, similar to what we did in the post-race tests at Catalunya," Stoner said.
"I'm also happy with the new fairing because conditions were a bit windy this afternoon but I could still lap fast at a very good rhythm. I think these two days have been really positive for us."
John Hopkins, who had been Stoner's closest rival throughout the Grand Prix weekend, took second again, half a second behind the Ducati. His Suzuki teammate Chris Vermeulen was fifth, behind Randy de Puniet (Kawasaki) and Nicky Hayden (Honda).
"The whole test has been very encouraging and we have certainly got a clear indication of the direction to take for the rest of the season," said team boss Paul Denning.
Valentino Rossi's Brno troubles continued as he only managed 11th place, four positions behind his Yamaha teammate Colin Edwards.
But having been underwhelmed by his bike and tyres' performance on Monday, Rossi felt more progress was being made today.
"We haven't found a miracle tyre yet but we gave a lot of information to Michelin which will hopefully help them in their work for the next races," Rossi said.
"We used the new engine again for some of the day and found it a little bit better, although we need more time to work on it.
"Anyway we've given some important information to our engineers so they can continue with the development for the future."
