Spies chasing MotoGP ride at Suzuki

The 23-year-old currently rides for Suzuki in America, where he won the AMA Superbike race supporting the US Grand Prix last weekend, and he has admitted that he is trying to get a chance with their MotoGP outfit.

"I'm looking to move sooner rather than later, that's for sure," Spies told autosport.com. "I'm trying."

The American also took heart from the performance of his AMA rival Roger Lee Hayden at the weekend, as the brother of reigning MotoGP champion Nicky finished 10th for Kawasaki in a one-off appearance in the championship.

"Roger rode really good on Sunday with not too much time on the bike," said Spies, "and I think Suzuki might be a little step ahead of Kawasaki in MotoGP right now."

Spies has also become involved with Douglas Gonda, who used to be John Hopkins' manager, in a bid to secure a MotoGP ride.

"He only works with me on European based stuff, in America he has nothing to do with me," Spies added.

"Obviously he's trying to get the job done and get me a ride over there, and that's what I want to do. We'll know in a couple of months I guess."

Spies currently leads the AMA Superbike standings ahead of Mat Mladin.
