Rossi would prefer Australian race in March
MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi would like to see the Australian round moved from its current spring date to the beginning of the season in the future to try to avoid bad weather like that experienced by riders this afternoon
Following a wet practice session, Rossi said he would like to see the race moved to March, confirming that he had brought the matter up in the past Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta, and would again in the future, in an effort to secure the change.
"It is a pity coming to Phillip Island, this period, 'cause it is the wrong period," Rossi explained. "We speak with Carmelo for start in Phillip Island in March, from two years, with all the other riders.
"But looks like the problem is (the Australian) Formula One Grand Prix, and if Formula One is in March, we have to come in winter, unfortunately.
"I think everybody is more happy to come here in March.
"Last year Carmelo say 'for 2008 difficult, but maybe for 2009', but looking at the calendar this time is same so, after we speak, we see if we have some chance."
The race was held in March the first year it was held at Phillip Island in 1989, but since then the event had been held in September or October.
The World Superbike series has also visited the circuit at both ends of the year, with a race held in April in 2001 being abandoned after rain left parts of the circuit underwater.
