Lorenzo to focus on scoring points

The injured Jorge Lorenzo says he is just aiming to salvage some points from the French Grand Prix

The factory Yamaha rider has qualified sixth despite having both ankles immobilised in casts as he continues to recover from injuries sustained in a practice crash in China a fortnight ago.

He also crashed twice in practice, including a violent accident in this morning's session, and admitted that the Le Mans incidents had increased his discomfort - although he remains confident that he is fit enough to race.

"I'm fine," Lorenzo told Italia1 television. "It hurts more than before, but at least I didn't worsen the fracture. That's important."

He said the morning crash was due to cold tyres rather than because his physical condition was hampering his ability to control the Yamaha.

"The bike wasn't going very well, and the front tyre wasn't warm enough," Lorenzo said. "I braked too hard and fell again."

The Spaniard added that his focus would be on making it through the race.

"We have the chance to take part," Lorenzo said. "We are not in the best shape, but at least we can score some points."

Having finished fourth in Shanghai despite his injuries, Lorenzo remains second in the championship, only seven points behind leader and Le Mans pole-winner Dani Pedrosa.
