Kawasaki duo fastest as test ends

Randy de Puniet led a surprise Kawasaki one-two on the final afternoon of pre-season testing at Jerez

With the televised qualifying simulation having taken place between today's two practice sessions, the teams inevitably focused more on long runs and race preparations during this afternoon's test.

Consequently the likely title contenders were lapping far shy of the pace that they had displayed during the earlier qualifying session, and left the way clear for lower profile riders to shine.

De Puniet and teammate Olivier Jacque both took turns at the head of the times before de Puniet lapped in 1:40.256, 0.3 seconds clear of Jacque, with half an hour remaining.

Gresini Honda rider Toni Elias snatched third from Pramac d'Antin's Alex Hofmann at the very end of the session, both lapping half a second slower than de Puniet.

Having dominated the qualifying session, Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi settled for fifth and sixth this afternoon.
