Capirossi troubled by understeer

Loris Capirossi blamed handling problems for his disappointing run to 13th on the grid at Misano

The Ducati rider was 1.365 seconds slower than teammate Casey Stoner, who took a fourth consecutive pole.

"The track is completely new for everyone, and it's good to be back in Misano, but I keep having problems. I have a lot of understeer and can't get the bike to run well," Capirossi told Italia1 television.

"We are trying out everything, the team have done many things today, but even though we had two hours this morning, we didn't make major modification to the bike.

"Today we tried, but unfortunately it didn't work, so we got a bit screwed. We'll see how it goes tomorrow, when we'll use the warm-up as a test session, so let's hope for the best."

Capirossi believes the issue is related to the Ducati's settings rather than the Bridgestone tyres.

"As for tyres we are quite well sorted, it's more of a set-up problem," he said.

"We must understand whether we have too much load at the front. We can heavily change the weight distribution, but when we made the bike much different with a lot more load at the rear it was worse, so we'll see."

The veteran Italian has had a frustrating season and has struggled to match teammate Stoner.

While the Australian has scored seven wins and established a 60-point championship lead, Capirossi is ninth in the standings and has only twice reached the podium. He will leave Ducati for Suzuki at the end of the year.
