Capirossi concentrates on race set-up

Loris Capirossi does not expect to feature strongly in today's 'qualifying' session at Jerez after struggling with his Ducati Desmosedici GP7 during the second day of official testing

A new BMW road car is on offer for the fastest rider in this afternoon's televised session, but Capirossi says he would rather work on solving his bike's traction problems than star in today's timed event, which does not count for championship points.

"We tested a few things but we haven't found the right set-up yet, I can't seem to get really good traction," said Capirossi.

"We won't think too much about the afternoon's 'qualifying' session, which is fun and a good show for the public, because we want to concentrate again on preparing the bike for next month's race here.

"We haven't tested any qualifying tyres because it's pointless when you're not yet totally okay with the settings."

But Capirossi, who was only 14th in Saturday's test, was buoyed by his Ducati Marlboro teammate Casey Stoner's performance, as the Australian conquered the handling problems that had troubled him on Friday and went sixth quickest.

"To tell the truth I'm not really worried because I saw Casey going faster, so I know we have a margin for improvement and I'm confident we will be able to improve the set-up," said Capirossi.
