Camier keeps Aspar MotoGP seat for Misano as Hayden recovers

Hayden withdrew from racing last month to have a major operation that he hoped would resolve persistent wrist issues dating back to a 2011 crash.

He had originally hoped to just miss the Indianapolis and Brno races, but ended up skipping Silverstone too and will now have to sit out a further race, with British rider Camier continuing in his place.

"I'm definitely going to miss the next race at Misano, but I'm planning on that being the last one and making my return at Aragon," Hayden said in a video message.

"I don't like to miss races, but don't think I've been at home on a summer vacation, goofing off.

"I've worked closely with my doctor and done everything he's asked."

Hayden said he had begun riding motorcycles again as part of his recovery, but was not yet fit enough for MotoGP competition.

"Yesterday I did some flat-track riding on the dirt to give my doctors some feedback, and it was how I kind of hoped to feel," he said.

"I'm not strong enough to ride a MotoGP bike yet, but I'm definitely improving. I wasn't suffering a lot with the pain.

"The big thing for me now is to get the movement and the strength.

"Not only did I have one big operation, I had a smaller one before that, so it's been an ongoing deal that's really caused the hand and arm to get weak."

Camier's best finish of his stand-in stint so far is 15th in the Czech Grand Prix.

The 28-year-old has put himself in contention for a 2015 MotoGP seat having been close to team-mate Hiroshi Aoyama's pace since getting the Aspar call-up.
