MotoGP relaxes testing regulations for 2012

This year, race riders have been allowed only two days on which to test machinery outside of the official IRTA tests that take place sporadically during the season.

As a result, test riders such as Kosuke Akiyoshi (Honda) and Franco Battaini (Ducati) have completed most of the work during the season, with varying results.

However, a statement issued by motorcycling racing's governing body the FIM on Thursday said that all riders would now be allowed to test, subject to a limit on the number of tyres being imposed.

The statement read: "It was agreed that with effect from 2012 private testing of MotoGP class machines may be carried out by any rider, subject to a limit on the total number of tyres being supplied by the official MotoGP tyre supplier. Final details will be confirmed at the next GPC meeting in December."

The new test rules will also cover running taking place for the remainder of this year.

Among the other rule changes agreed upon are a spec brake disc size of 320mm for bikes not running under CRT rules and a mandate that all bikes must carry brake lever protection.
