Lorenzo eager to enjoy rest of season
Newly-crowned MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo says he is looking forward to getting back to racing without pressure at Phillip Island this weekend
Lorenzo had looked set for the title ever since nearest challenger Valentino Rossi suffered a broken leg in June, and once Dani Pedrosa's long-shot title bid was ended by a broken collarbone at Motegi, he was able to wrap up the championship with third place in Malaysia last weekend.
The Yamaha rider is now determined to get back to winning races in the remaining three rounds, having not been on the top step of the podium since Brno in August.
"It still feels good to hear the words 'world champion'. Now the goals are completely different," said Lorenzo.
"Now I don't need any more points to win the championship. But I would like to finish the championship fighting for victories. I will try to the maximum."
This weekend's Australian Grand Prix is the last of three back-to-back races in Australasia before the series returns to Europe for concluding rounds at Estoril and Valencia. But Lorenzo said celebrating at home was not a big priority for him.
"I'm excited to do it, but I think I'm more excited about getting on the bike tomorrow," he said. "I want to enjoy this race to the maximum without any pressure, and to enjoy the motorcycle."
He added that he had enjoyed a spectacular week since clinching the championship at Sepang last Sunday.
"There have been a lot of interviews, a lot of celebrations with the team - we're still celebrating every night, but not as much as the first night... we are very happy," said Lorenzo.
