Turkey dropped from 2008 calendar

The Turkish Grand Prix has been dropped from the next year's MotoGP calendar, as widely expected

The 2008 provisional calendar of the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix, announced today by the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme, sees the Portugal race moving up from its September slot to take the place of Turkey in April.

The Istanbul Park venue was taken over by Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone last April, followed by Dorna chairman Carmelo Ezpeleta saying that no decision was taken about its inclusion in the 2008 calendar.

The recently announced Indianapolis Grand Prix will take the vacant slot left by the Estoril race with a September 14 date, meaning that there will again be 18 races next year.

The Netherlands Grand Prix at Assen will again take place on a Saturday, while the United States Grand Prix at Laguna Seca will again exclude the 125cc and 250cc classes.
