MotoGP Brno: Jorge Lorenzo tops first practice

Jorge Lorenzo led the way in first practice for the Czech MotoGP at Brno ahead of Marc Marquez, who recovered from a crash

Honda's Marquez set the early pace with a 1m56.898s and was atop the timesheets when he ran wide at Turn 13, approaching the halfway point of the session.

In attempting to ride through the gravel trap, he fell and after pushing his bike back to the pits, returned to the track 10 minutes later, on the same tyres and without requiring repairs.

During that time, Andrea Dovizioso and Lorenzo moved to the top of the times, with Lorenzo going three-tenths clear with a 1m56.499s lap on his Yamaha.

The last non-Honda rider to win at the circuit, in 2010, Lorenzo's effort was good enough to top the session.

On his first flying lap after the fall, Marquez improved to a 1m56.650s lap, ultimately 0.151s shy of Lorenzo, while team-mate Dani Pedrosa was third, having favoured the harder option rear tyre.

Dovizioso was fourth, ahead of Ducati team-mate Andrea Iannone, the pair on updated GP15s, with Iannone also evaluating a new front fairing during the session.

Championship leader Valentino Rossi was sixth, ahead of Bradley Smith, Suzuki pair Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales, while Cal Crutchlow completed the top 10.

After missing the Indianapolis round, Forward Racing returned with Loris Baz in 20th place and Claudio Corti 23rd.

In his first MotoGP session since dislocating a toe during the Catalunya GP in June, Czech rider Karel Abraham was 25th and last.
