Brno MotoGP: Dani Pedrosa had faith he could win even when passed by Jorge Lorenzo
Dani Pedrosa said he still thought he could win the Czech Grand Prix even when Jorge Lorenzo overtook him half a lap from the finish
In an epic showdown at the end of the Brno race, Lorenzo slipped inside long-time Pedrosa on the final lap, only for the Honda to retaliate going into the last few corners and edge back ahead.
Lorenzo then braked ultra-late into the final S-bend only to run wide and let Pedrosa accelerate through and claim victory.
"It was a difficult last lap because I knew Jorge was very fast in the middle of the corner," said Pedrosa.
"I could hear the bike following me. I knew just a small opening would let him come in.
"In that left-hander I just opened the door a little bit more than normal and boom, he was immediately in and I saw his frame in my face.
"There was half a lap to go and I was a little more nervous than before but I also knew had some strong points coming towards the end of the track. So I tried to get my best drive up the hill.
"In almost the last corner I get alongside him. He tried to release the brakes and we were head to head into the corner but I could win this race.
"It was amazing and I'm just so happy."
Pedrosa's victory reduces Lorenzo's championship lead to 13 points with six races to go in the 2012 MotoGP season.
