125cc: Faubel wins as Talmacsi gets title
Hector Faubel won the 125cc season-ending race at Valencia while Aspar Aprilia teammate Gabor Talmacsi took this year's title
The Spaniard managed to snatch the race win with a move on the Hungarian on the last lap, but having entered the race ten points behind it was not enough to just beat his rival.
Faubel made it obvious his plan was to win the race and try to get at least two other riders between himself and Talmacsi.
Three laps into the race the two championship opponents were leading the race, with Talmacsi over one second ahead of Faubel.
Five laps later the gap between the duo vanished, with Faubel beginning to often overtake Talmacsi but then losing the lead within a couple of corners.
However, the fighting on the track played in Faubel's hands, as the rest of the riders managed to close a gap to the leading pair of almost four seconds to nothing for the last couple of laps.
On lap 20 Talmacsi and Faubel even made contact on the track with the latter nudging the former under braking. Luckily both riders managed to continue without consequences.
In the last lap the two exchanged positions a couple of times, with Faubel managing to make a late move that won him the race.
Talmacsi did not give up and finished the race in second place, closely followed by the third Aspar Aprilia of Sergio Gadea in third.
"It's a fantastic feeling," Talmacsi commented. "The race was really difficult: I tried my best but every time Hector passed me on the straight and tried to block me. Of course this was his tactic but it was not enough."
Mattia Pasini took fourth with his Polaris Aprilia, in front of Lukas Pesek's Derbi in fifth and Esteve Rabat's Honda in sixth.
Aprilia's Pablo Nieto ended the race in seventh, followed by Honda's Bradley Smith in eighth and Tomoyoshi Koyama's KTM in ninth.
Pol Espargaro made a perfect start from ninth on the grid to lead the race at the first corner. The Aprilia rider was first at the end of the first lap but then started to progressively lose positions to eventually finish the race in tenth place.
