Moto2: Debon masters wet Valencia track

Wet weather maestro Alex Debon took provisional pole position at Valencia for Aprilia in tricky conditions on Friday

Despite his pace the Aprilia official test rider, who won the wet French Grand Prix earlier this year, was one of several front-runners to crash on the slippery Spanish track.

In fact all three of the fastest riders fell off. Slower by 0.3secs than Debon, was Hiroshi Aoyama, who led the session early on for KTM before crashing.

Teammate Mika Kallio might have taken the top spot but for a massive accident halfway through his lap, when he was 0.6secs up on Debon's time. The Finn emerged okay from the highside, but his bike, which struck the barrier at almost unabated speed, was completely destroyed.

Newly-crowned world champion Marco Simoncelli was fourth fastest, the Italian one of the few to avoid the carnage.

Mattia Pasini fell twice on his way to fifth position, while Julian Simon also had an off before taking sixth place.

Imre Toth was seventh fastest, ahead of Lukas Pesek and Alvaro Bautista. Fabrizio Lai meanwhile, took the final top ten spot.
