Moto2: Kallio snatches win from de Angelis

Mika Kallio won the 250cc season finale at Valencia with a move on the penultimate lap over Alex de Angelis

The KTM rider from Finland started the race from pole position but fell to fourth place at the start and was as low as fifth on lap 11.

De Angelis, by contrast, started the race from the ninth spot on the grid with his Aprilia, and progressively made places to take the lead by lap 11.

That coincided with this year's world champion Jorge Lorenzo starting to lose ground after taking the lead at the start. From lap 10 to lap 14 the Spaniard fell inexplicably from first to eighth place.

Kallio overtook Honda's Andrea Dovizioso for third on lap 17, and on lap 21 he inherited second place when Spaniard Alvaro Bautista crashed out of the race.

The Finn then set off to catch San Marino's de Angelis and after closely following him for the last few laps he made his winning move with just a lap left in the race.

Aprilia's Alex Debon also managed to snatch the final podium position at the end of the race from Dovizioso, who had to settle for fourth. The Spaniard scored his first podium of a 250cc career that started in 1998.

Hector Barbera took fifth with his Aprilia, ahead of Julia Simon's Honda in sixth, and Lorenzo's Aprilia in seventh.

Yuki Takahashi classified in eighth, Thomas Luthi ninth, and Hiroshi Aoyama tenth.
