Moto2: Lorenzo dominates in Qatar

Jorge Lorenzo started his defense of the 250cc crown he won last year by winning the Qatar Grand Prix in dominant fashion, followed by an impromptu dance near his Fortuna Aprilia bike right after going over finishing line

The Spaniard, who started from pole position, lost the lead at the first corner but retook it during the first lap and never looked back, opening a gap as big as three seconds with six laps to go in the race.

Second place went to a hard fighting Alex de Angelis. It was a matter of what could have been for the San Marino rider, who had a poor start and dropped down to eighth place from his third spot on the grid.

The Master - MVA Aspar Aprilia rider soon lost touch to the leading pack made up of Lorenzo, Hector Barbera, Andea Dovizioso and Thomas Luthi. Being two seconds off at the beginning of lap 7, he got back in contention by closing the gap in a matter of four laps, but there was nothing more he could do after taking overtaking Barbera for second with six laps remaining.

Team Toth Aprilia rider Barbera had to settle for third after having to defend his position from rookie Swiss rider Luthi, who had an impressive debut.

With four Aprilias taking the top four positions, the top Honda rider was Italian Dovizioso of the Humangest Racing Team, almost 10 seconds away from fourth place. Eight seconds behind in sixth place was fellow Italian Roberto Locatelli.

Hiroshi Aoyama had a bad accident on lap three, with him being caught under his KTM bike. He luckily walked away seemingly without suffering any consequences.

On the next lap Alvaro Bautista also crashed out of the race while in 6th place.
