Moto2: Lorenzo secures Qatar pole

Jorge Lorenzo secured a late pole position for the 250cc season opener at Qatar after beating provisional pole man Hector Barbera right at the end of the session

With laptimes steadily coming down during the session, it had appeared that Barbera's best lap of 1:59.782 late on had done enough to keep his overnight top spot.

But Lorenzo put everything on the line to snatch the top spot for himself and secure the pole position for tomorrow's race.

Alex de Angelis put in his best lap right at the end of session too, but it was not enough to challenge the two bikes ahead of him.

Alvaro Bautista was one of only a few riders who was unable to improve on his best lap from Thursday, but he was still able to take fourth place, while a much-improved Thomas Luthi will start fifth.

Hiroshi Aoyama will start sixth on the grid, ahead of Andrea Dovizioso and Julian Simon.
