Will Power will have access to team orders in IndyCar finale at Fontana

Penske team president Tim Cindric says that maximising Will Power's chances of claiming his first IndyCar title will be the main focus of the strategy across all three of the team's cars at next weekend's finale at Fontana

Power goes into next weekend's race with a 17-point lead over main rival Ryan Hunter-Reay, although the Australian's team-mates Helio Castoneves and Ryan Briscoe are both within reach of finishing the season in the top five.

Cindric said that all three drivers' ambitions will be taken into account, but that the championship takes precedence.

"It will certainly be something that we consider throughout the race," Cindric said. "Our number one goal, obviously, is to win the championship.

"The other two guys have things that they're trying to accomplish as well. I think Helio realistically is racing for third, and Ryan has an outside chance of being in the top five. So the better [Power's] team-mates run, the better it is overall."

Power has finished the previous two seasons as championship runner-up to Dario Franchitti.

Cindric believes that the lessons learned from previous campaigns, as well as his improved performances on ovals, will stand Power in good stead when he takes to the two-mile superspeedway.

"He's been through the different experiences of the highs and lows," he said. "He continues to perform better and better, in my opinion, on the ovals. This year in Texas he got a blocking penalty, and he was definitely the car to beat in Texas.

"I think Fontana's going to be a similar race to Texas. Probably different in some ways, but I think his frame of mind ... he's been through and understands what that all means to come down to the last race.

"I think there is certainly progress on that front."
