Series takes mumps precautions

IRL IndyCar Series drivers and personnel were asked to take blood tests prior to this weekend's Nashville event due to the current mumps scare

HVM driver EJ Viso was diagnosed with the viral infection this week and will miss the Nashville race, but the Indy Racing League asked people who came in contact with Viso last week at Watkins Glen to show they had had the virus earlier or been vaccinated for it or submit to a blood test.

"I had the shot when I was little, and I had the shot again when I got my green card," said Braziian Tony Kanaan. "And I got tested eight months ago because my wife was pregnant. I know I'm okay."

Championship leader Scott Dixon had the blood test, saying he couldn't recall if he'd had the illness previously.

"I don't know if it's really that big of a deal," he said. "I don't know if I had it or not. It's something you get when you're a kid, but I don't know if I did."
