Ryan Briscoe replaces JR Hildebrand at Panther Racing for Detroit

Ryan Briscoe will the drive #4 Panther Racing car in the Detroit IndyCar race this weekend after the team parted ways with JR Hildebrand

Panther said earlier today it was parting company with Hildebrand after 37 IndyCar races together.

Briscoe was without a full-time IndyCar drive this year after Team Penske scaled down from three cars to two at the end of the 2012 season.

The Australian secured a seat with Ganassi for last weekend's Indianapolis 500, where he finished in 12th place.

"We couldn't be happier to have Ryan Briscoe join Panther Racing this weekend," said Panther managing partner John Barnes.

"He's a championship-calibre driver who's proven he can win races on any type of track in the IndyCar Series.

"We have no doubt he can jump right into our programme and put the #4 National Guard Chevy at the front of the field."

Briscoe, a seven-time race winner in IndyCar, said he was optimistic of a strong weekend in his first outing with the team.

"I'm unbelievably excited to be back in the IndyCar Series with Panther Racing and to have the opportunity to drive the National Guard Chevrolet this weekend," Briscoe said.

"I've competed against this team for a long time and it will be great to have the opportunity to work with John Barnes and the Panther guys.

"I'm confident we'll all work well together and be able to hit the ground running this weekend in Detroit."
