Practice: Redon surprise quickest

There was an unusual look to the head of the times after Friday practice for the IRL round at the Kansas Speedway with rookie Laurent Redon heading the times from Richie Hearn

Redon lapped the 1.5-mile oval in 25.0019s seven hundredths up on Hearn and a full tenth ahead of Eddie Cheever who was third. All of the top three cars were Dallara-Infinitis.

Penske Gil de Ferran was the first of the championship contenders in fourth, just fractions quicker than Sam Hornish Jr. Helio Castroneves was seventh.

"The first session we were not very good, so we changed the set-up quite a lot," said Redon. "It was much better, and hopefully we have a good car for tomorrow. We still have work to do. On my quick lap, I had a good tow, so it's not really my time. We're pretty close I think. The race is going to be pretty difficult. I tried a few times to overtake, and it was not that easy. We're going to see."

Qualifying for the Ameristar 200 takes place later today (Saturday).
