IRL supremo in frame to buy Lausitz

IRL boss Tony George is a contender to buy the financially-troubled EuroSpeedway Lausitz according to this week's AUTOSPORT magazine

George visited the motorsport complex just four days after the administrators were appointed, and sources in Germany insist the trip was to register an interest in a purchase.

George admitted that he paid a visit to Lausitz during a trip to Europe, but denied that he has any interest in buying the venue.

"There is going to be no purchase," he said, but added that he is interested in expanding the series beyond its US borders. "We are a growing series. We always said that if and when the opportunity presents itself to expand internationally or even go to a road course, we would consider it."

The CART round at Lausitz is still scheduled to take place this September, despite rumours suggesting that it may be cancelled if no buyer is found.
