Qualifying: Scheckter's second pole

Scheckter's fast lap was a 25.0381sec (218.547mph) in his Red Bull Cheever Racing Dallara-Infiniti, continuing the Japanese manufacturer's run of strong showings on the league's longer tracks. All three of Infiniti's poles this season have come on tracks of 1.5 miles (like Kansas) or more in length.

Sam Hornish Jr joins Scheckter on the front row after turning a lap of 25.1305sec (217.743) in his Pennzoil Panther Racing Dallara-Chevrolet. Hornish spoiled an all-Red Bull front row, as Scheckter's teammate and boss Eddie Cheever placed third at 25.1414sec (217.649).

Yesterday's fast man of practice, rookie Laurent Redon, made it three for four for Infiniti by qualifying fourth.

It was a tough day for Team Penske, as points leader Helio Castroneves qualified seventh at 25.3066 (216.228) while team-mate Gil de Ferran is well back in 21st.
