Power completes Mid-Ohio test as he returns to action following his Iowa crash
Will Power completed a test at Mid-Ohio after being cleared to drive again following his shunt in the Iowa 250 event last weekend
The Australian Penske driver suffered a mild concussion after crashing heavily at Turn 2 while attempting to lap Vitor Meira before half distance and was required to take a mandatory ImPACT (Immediate Post-concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) before being deemed fit to drive on the road course alongside team-mates Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe.
"It's good to be back out there," said Power, who currently lies second in the IndyCar Series standings, 20 points behind reigning champion Dario Franchitti. "It was a hard hit at Iowa, but I didn't actually get knocked out or anything. I just had a headache for the first night and some neck soreness.
"I needed to get checked out by the IndyCar officials and it was more precautionary than anything, but that's good, because you can never be too careful.
"Every driver does a test, called an ImPACT test, at the beginning of every season. It basically tests your reflexes, your memory and so on. Then you have to go back and do that test again if you have an incident like what we had in Iowa. I took the test and the doctors cleared me to drive."
Power will test again for Penske at New Hampshire, alongside Pippa Mann (driving for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing) on July 5.
