Cheever and Menard in alliance
Chevrolet-powered Indy Racing League teams Cheever Racing and Team Menard have forged a new link-up in an attempt to take on the influx of Toyota and Honda engines coming in for next year
The teams have set up a new company called MCT, which will be headed by former Renault Sport engine wizard Bernard Dudot. It is designed to provide research and development for both teams, which will continue to run separately.
Team owner Eddie Cheever said: "We are going to pool our resources so that we can harness all the opportunities to develop our cars and engines with everything that General Motors has to offer. It's a good use of funds and human resources and will allow us to develop at a much faster pace."
Cheever will use Chevy engines built and maintained by Menard's tuning arm, not from TWR USA as had been previously planned.
Cheever is planning to race in the Indianapolis 500, the Le Mans 24 Hours and the Daytona 24 Hours next year, despite taking a step back from driving full-time in the IRL. Young American Buddy Rice has been signed for his IRL team. A plan for who will drive a second car is being worked on.
