Briscoe still looking to stay in the US
Ryan Briscoe has admitted that he is still focused on landing a race drive in the United States next year, despite his call-up to join Toyota for Formula One testing
Briscoe has been asked to fill in for the unwell Olivier Panis for two days at Jerez in Spain this week and he could be asked back against for next week's running at the same track.
But despite his renewed link with F1, Briscoe says his heart remains on securing his future across the Atlantic. He is due to test for PKV Racing soon and could be set for a switch to Champ Cars followed mixed fortunes in the Indy Racing League this season before his massive crash at Chicago.
"I might test for Toyota again, but I am still planning to race in the States," he told autosport.com. "I got back into the rhythm of things pretty quickly again today, but I am looking at racing next year."
Briscoe has not driven an F1 car since the end of 2004 but believed the new V8-powered cars were not too dissimilar from what he was used to before.
"It is a bit less power with the V8, but the traction control feels the same way coming out of the corners," he added. "And the driveability is very similar to what I used to drive - and the car actually feels quite nice."
