AGR confirm Marco Andretti
Andretti Green Racing have confirmed that teenager Marco Andretti will replace reigning champion Dan Wheldon in their four-car squad for next season
The team announced their 2006 driver line-up for the season today, with current drivers Dario Franchitti, Tony Kanaan and Bryan Herta all staying on for 2006.
Because Marco, son of team boss Michael, is only 18 he will not race in Wheldon's vacated Jim Beam-sponsored Dallara Honda, but will swap with Franchitti and drive the ArcaEx machine.
Marco has already proved to be a race winner. AGR ran the young Andretti this season in IRL's feeder formula, the Infiniti Pro-Series, where he won three out of the six races he entered, including at the supporting event to the US GP on Indianapolis's road course. However, he crashed in the Indy 500 supporting race.
Marco said: "Obviously, I'm excited about having the opportunity to drive the ArcaEx car for Andretti Green Racing. Over the past couple of years, I've had the opportunity to spend time in the paddock with the team, as well as my three teammates, so that is a plus.
"I know that I have a lot of work ahead of me and a pretty steep learning curve, but I also know that I have one of the best teams in motorsports working with me."
Team boss Michael Andretti will come out of retirement to aid Marco's progress in the Indy 500.
