DRR to give Hildebrand Indy debut
Reigning Indy Lights champion JR Hildebrand will make his IndyCar debut with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in the Lexington and Sears Point rounds in August
Hildebrand will become the latest driver to sit in for the injured Mike Conway, following on from Tomas Scheckter, Graham Rahal and Paul Tracy.
"We are extremely excited about putting JR in our car at Mid-Ohio and Sonoma," said team co-owner Dennis Reinbold. "He adds another dimension to our programme and we are happy to have him on board for those events."
The 22-year-old American will test for Dreyer & Reinbold at the Sonoma track prior to his debut.
Despite a commanding championship victory in the feeder series last year, Hildebrand was unable to find a full-time IndyCar drive for 2010, finally missing out on his last option at Dale Coyne Racing to Alex Lloyd after a late-winter test. He also had a run with the Force India Formula 1 at Jerez last December, but Paul di Resta was picked for the reserve driver role instead.
Since then, Hildebrand's only outings have been in the LMPC class of the American Le Mans Series. He was delighted to finally get an IndyCar chance.
"It's under unfortunate circumstances because of Mike and I wish him well, but it will be great to be racing with DRR," said Hildebrand.
"They've shown great pace all season and I'm going to try to push myself toward being at the front. I'm also looking forward to being team-mates with Justin Wilson, I think it will be a great opportunity all around."
