Dixon quickest again in final practice

The Ganassi driver, who leads the standings by 30 points over Penske's Helio Castroneves going into tomorrow's race, dominated the first group in the split session.

His 25.1102 second lap was 0.2974 seconds faster than second-placed Graham Rahal (Newman/Haas/Lanigan) in the session, with a similar margin covering the next 11 cars in the group.

However the majority of Dixon's likely rivals for the pole and win were in group two, and the rest of the top six in combined times were all drivers from the second session.

Penske's Ryan Briscoe was the best of the group two runners, although even he was 0.1243 seconds slower than Dixon, with Andretti Green's Tony Kanaan and Danica Patrick taking third and fourth. Castroneves languished in the midfield for much of the half-hour, before improving to fifth later on.

Marco Andretti was sixth fastest for AGR, with Rahal pushed back to seventh ahead of Vitor Meira (Panther), Will Power (KV) and Dan Wheldon (Ganassi).

Sarah Fisher put in an impressive performance on her third outing with her self-run team. She was fifth fastest in group one, and held on to a respectable 11th place on combined times.
