Race schedule for 2000

Next year's American Le Mans Series calendar has been announced at Road Atlanta this weekend.

The schedule includes four overseas events plus the recently announced additions of Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte and Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.

One of the overseas events will be the 'Race of 1,000 Years' on New Year's Eve in Adelaide, Australia to close the season.

Three overseas races, two in Europe and one in Asia, are to be announced.

The spring race at Road Atlanta is the only event to be deleted from next year's calendar.

'We've picked up two key markets in Charlotte and Texas,' said Bill Donaldson, executive director of the series.

'We're going to have terrific venues in Europe and Asia.

'The series was successfully launched and has exceeded our expectations in a number of areas.

'That's given us a platform to grow the series for 2000 and beyond.'

Points toward championships in all classes - prototype, GTS and GT - will be determined by competitors' best 10 finishes during the campaign.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans, scheduled for June 17-18 with pre-qualifying April 29-30,
will not count towards the ALMS championship.
