Qualifying: Lister storms front row
Jamie Campbell-Walter picked up from where he left off in Magny-Cours by following up his French win with pole position for Saturday's FIA GT race at Silverstone
Campbell-Walter put in a storming lap during Friday's Super Pole qualifying session to finish almost half a second clear of the opposition and put the Lister Storm he shares with Nicolaus Springer in the top spot.
Campbell-Walter said: "I had no dramas on my Super Pole lap apart from a few spots of rain on my way through Club corner. But it didn't slow me down any."
It was an all-round good day for the Lister squad as closest rival to the poleman was team-mate Bobby Verdon-Roe to make it an all Storm front row.
"This is very pleasing," said Verdon-Roe, who shares the driving duties with Paul Knapfield. "I haven't got some of the developments that are on Jamie's car. Laurence [Pearce, Lister team boss] gave me a bit of a pep talk before I went out and said 'don't screw up'. I didn't and we've got a Lister front row, which is fantastic."
Third spot went to Mike Hezemans, who put in a solid lap in his Carsport Holland Viper while the sister car of Luca Cappellari and Fabrizio Gollin was fast enough for fourth place on the grid with the latter behind the wheel.
Christophe Bouchut was third fastest in the morning qualifying session, but threw away any chances of repeating the feat by spinning off on his Super Pole lap into the gravel at Bridge Corner. As a result the Frenchman's Labre Competition Viper will start sixth.
In the N-GT division, Stephane Ortelli was a cut above the rest and the fastest of the six Super Pole drivers by more than a second in his Freisinger Motorsport Porsche 996 GT3-R.
Johnny Mowlem, who is standing in for Philip Peter in the Autorlando Sport team, set an impressive time of 1m53.142s, but was surprised when Ortelli popped in his time of 1m51.973s.
"I did a hard, hard lap," said Mowlem, who wound up second after the Pescatori/Montermini Ferrari 360 Modena was disqualified for a ride height infringement. "I was using all the kerbs and I couldn't have gone much quicker. Stephane came past me on his flying lap and everything looked so tight. God knows what he's got in the back of that thing."
