Free Practice: Lister holds sway
Opening round winners Jamie Campbell-Walter and Nicolaus Springer set the pace for Lister in the free practice sessions for the second round of the FIA GT Championship at Silverstone
Campbell-Walter lapped the Grand Prix Circuit in 1m46.922s, half a second clear of the Larbre-run Chrysler Viper of Christophe Bouchut, David Terrien and Vincent Vosse - which features a new engine and sequential gearbox for the first time this weekend.
Mike Hezemans and Anthony Kumpen were next up in the fastest of Carsport Holland's pair of Vipers, although the car's splitter fell off twice during the two sessions. "It is going well, but I think that the Lister is faster," said Hezemans.
Lister's Bobby Verdon-Roe and Paul Knapfield were next up, adding credence to a Lister vs Viper fight when race kicks off on Saturday evening. Looking to break up that two-way scrap is the BMS Scuderia Italia Ferrari 550 of Jean-Denis Delatraz and Andrea Piccini, which was sixth fastest, but over a second and a half slower than the quickest Lister.
"The Lister is just so fast," said Piccini. "I tried to follow it down the straight, but he drove away from me, and he is very good in the tight corners too, so there is no chance for us."
The Superpole session, which decides the top 12 cars on the grid, kicks off at 15.30 BST on Friday.
