Qualifying: Biela fastest for Audi

As expected, the Audi Sport Team Joest R8 prototypes led the way in qualifying for Sunday's Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio, with Le Mans winner Frank Biela setting the pace this time at 1m14.169s

The second works R8 was limited to just one fast lap by gearbox problems, but that still was good enough to put Rinaldo Capello and Tom Kristensen fifth overall.

"Naturally, I am happy with the qualifying result," said Biela. "We had a very good car here from the beginning. My first fast lap was clear and good. But I went out another time afterward, because I was not sure if the others could improve. But this was not the case."

Johnny Herbert and new team-mate Stefan Johansson will start fourth in the Champion team's 2001-spec R8, behind the two works Panoz entries.
