Panoz ups ALMS assault
Three factory Panoz prototypes will be on the grid for the next round of the American Le Mans Series at Sears Point next week, as predicted in AUTOSPORT magazine this week
The team will run a 2000-spec LMP Roadster S alongside its two latest cars, now known as LMP-01 Evos. It is believed the move could become permanent for the remainder of the season.
Gunnar Jeanette and David Donohue will drive the car. The pair are part of the Panoz Le Mans 24 Hours squad and need as much time in the car as possible to prepare for the classic race. The pair are due to share with Bill Auberlen, a full-time Panoz driver, at Le Mans, but their car suffered a prop-shaft failure in last week's test day, meaning they got very little running in.
Team manager Andy Waldrep said: "The three guys in the number 11 car at Le Mans really didn't get the chance to get as many miles as we would have liked, so we thought it was important for every member of the team to get as many laps as possible."
Donohue said: "Sears Point is a great challenge and probably one of the most difficult and demanding tracks in the country."
