Franchitti nets Porsche drive

Marino Franchitti will drive a Porsche GT3RS for The Racer Group in the second round of the American Le Mans Series, which takes place at Sears Point on May 19. The reigning British GTO champion will share the no. 66 car with team owner Kevin Buckler.

"It will be fun to be back in a Porsche" said Marino, whose last drive in a Porsche was the Daytona 24 Hours. "Same car, same Michelin tyres, it should seem very familiar, I just have to learn the track. I understand it's a difficult track, but once conquered, I can begin working on my lap times.

"Hopefully we can push the Alex Job cars; it would be nice to take a Porsche podium again".

It will be Franchitti's fourth race in the US this year, as the Scot has also competed at Daytona, Sebring and Phoenix. In his last race he made his prototype debut in a Rand Racing Lola-Nissan. He qualified on pole and set fastest lap on his way to the SRPII class win.
