McNish receives title boost

Allan McNish has unexpectedly seen his hopes of winning the inaugural Le Mans Endurance Series championship boosted after series organisers docked points from the dominating Larbre Ferrari squad after it won its class at Silverstone last weekend

The French outfit has won all three of the rounds so far and is certain to take the GTS crown. But organisers believe the team has been aided by a lack of entries in its class and have deducted points from its overall tally.

McNish, on the other hand, has had to battle it out with a strong prototype field making his and co-driver Pierre Kaffer's two wins all the more difficult. The two lead the LMP1 class but are now in the frame to take the overall championship as well as a result of Larbre's points deductions.

"Our aim is to win the prototype category for Audi Sport UK Team Veloqx," McNish told The Daily Telegraph. "But if Pierre and I can win the championship outright then that would be a fantastic bonus."

The final round of the championship takes place at Spa on September 12.
