FIA S'cars, M'Cours: Dome wins
Jan Lammers and Val Hillebrand claimed victory in the FIA Sportscar Championship round at Magny-Cours in their Dome
The differing strategies of the Racing for Holland squad and the Pescarolo Sport Courage, in addition to the hard fought battles in SR2, kept the interest alive. The lead lurched between the Dome and Pescarolo Sport's Courage throughout the race. After Lammers' final stop he was 10 seconds behind Jean-Christophe Boullion but the Pescarolo team had one more stop to make. It was a fast splash and dash on lap 92 but they had clutch problems and lost about 20 seconds.
Lammers' took the flag just 41.9 seconds ahead of Boullion, but the finish would have been even closer had the Pescarolo Courage not been delayed in the pits.
The Durango of Giammaria Bruni and Alssandro Battaglin fought an extremely close battle for third with R&M. But the Durango's engine failed after two hours, leaving Mauro Baldi to bring the new R&M chassis home to its second consecutive third place.
The SR2 class was even more closely contested than SR1. It was hard to keep up with the position changes at the beginning of the race with a six way scrap between the Peroni/Savoldi and Mancini/Collini works Lucchinis, the Saccomano father and son duo in the new GP Racing Lucchini, the Stack/Hignett Team Jota Pilbeam, Loven/Bjork/Oberto SRTS Lola and Michael Mallock/Darren Manning in the new John ChristieTampolli Opel.
Massimo Saccomano broke away from the rest and lead the class constantly throughout the race. They won their first race with GP racing comfortably despite receiving a 30 second penalty from the stewards for an untidy final pit stop.
