FIA GT Qual 1: Campbell-Walter fastest

Jamie Campbell-Walter put himself and co-driver Nicolaus Springer in good shape for the one-lap superpole qualifying shoot-out by going fastest in first qualifying for the penultimate round of the FIA GT Championship at Donington Park

Campbell-Walter hit the top of the timesheets early in the one-hour session in his Lister Storm, remaining there to the end to finish with a time of 1m29.277, some 0.332 of Andrea Piccini's Scuderia Italia Ferrari 550 Maranello.

The second Lister Storm of Britons Bobby Verdon-Roe and British GT regular Dave Warnock were the final qualifiers for the GT class superpole in sixth place, comfortably ahead of the Chrysler Viper of Philippe Alliot and David Hallyday.

The Enzo Calderari/Lilian Bryner/Jean-Marc Gounon Ferrari 550 was third fastest, ahead of the Vipers of Mike Hezemans/Anthony Kumpen and Luca Cappellari/Fabrizio Gollin.

Joint championship leader Christophe Bouchut and co-driver Vincent Vosse could manage only eighth in their ballast-laden Larbre Competition Viper, with the sister car of other points leader David Terrien and Carl Rosenblad only 11th.

In the NGT class, the Ferrari 360 Modena of Tim Sugden/Andrew Kirkaldy was fastest throughout the session, just over two-tenths of a second ahead of the Porsche 996 of Stephane Ortelli/Romain Dumas.

The second qualifying session, preceeded by the top-six determining superpole, takes place this afternoon (Saturday).
