Charlotte and Forth Worth join ALMS
Two new venues have been added to the 2000 American Le Mans Series
Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth are the additions according to announcements in Fort Worth and Indianapolis by Bill Donaldson, executive director of the American Le Mans Series and Eddie Gossage, executive vice president and general manager of Texas Motor Speedway.
The new races give the series a total of three at Speedway Motorsports Inc. venues, joining Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, California.
The Charlotte event takes place on April 1 while the Texas race is on September 2 and aired on a one-day delay by NBC to 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3.
The remainder of the American Le Mans Series schedule is expected to be announced next week at the second annual Petit Le Mans, the 10-hour or 1,000-mile race at Road Atlanta that is the series model after the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans.
'We're very pleased to be taking the series to these major markets and major motorsports facilities,' said Donaldson.
'We worked with the Speedway Motorsports people at Sears Point this year and they're among the best in the business promotionally.
The Texas Motor Speedway General Manager Eddie Gossage said, ' We're moving into a new millennium of speed.'
