Bernoldi eyes GT1 title with Ford

Enrique Bernoldi says he expects to be a contender for the inaugural GT1 World Championship title after switching to the Matech Ford team for 2010

The former Formula 1 racer contested a part-season in predecessor series FIA GT last year with the Sangari Brazil Corvette squad and was an immediate frontrunner, winning the Paul Ricard round with team-mate Roberto Streit.

Bernoldi has moved to the Ford brand for the new world championship, and will line-up alongside Matech team regular Thomas Mutsch.

"I'm very happy to have the opportunity to drive for Matech as I like both the team structure and the car," said Bernoldi. "It's going to be great to drive the Matech GT1 car for the first time and to develop it with Thomas over the season. I cannot wait to fight for the championship and win races."

Mutsch believes the addition of Bernoldi is a major boost for Matech, which developed the Ford GT last year.

"I'm really pleased to share the car with Enrique," said the German. "I have known him for many years before now. He was very fast last year in FIA GT and I'm sure we are going to make a great driver pairing this season."

Matech has an all-female line-up for its second car, having recruited former Formula 2 driver Natacha Gachnang and sometime Formula 3 and Indy Lights racer Cyndie Allemann.
