HTP Mercedes squad signs Stef Dusseldorp for 2014 Blancpain GT

Former FIA GT1 World Championship frontrunner Stef Dusseldorp will race for the German HTP Motorsport Mercedes squad in the Blancpain GT Series this year

The 24-year-old Dutchman will race an HTP Mecedes-Benz SLS AMG in both the Blancpain Sprint Series and the Blancpain Endurance Series, which combine to make up the overall GT Series.

The move follows the closure of the French Hexis Racing squad with which he contested GT1 World in 2011-12 and last year's Blancpain Endurance schedule.

Dusseldorp also made appearances in FIA GTs last year with HTP Gravity Charouz and Boutsen Ginion Racing.

His drive in the Hexis McLaren MP4-12C in the non-championship Baku GT race in 2012 caught the eye of HTP boss Norbert Bruckner.

"Stef has impressed me in GT cars, especially in 2012 at Baku: he moved the car around the street circuit as if he had never done anything else," he said.

HTP has already confirmed that 2013 Blancpain title winner and FIA GT race winner Maximilian Buhk will remain with the team for the coming season and has also signed experienced Swiss sportscar driver Harold Primat.

DID YOU KNOW...
... Stef Dusseldorp was a sparring partner of Kevin Magnussen in German Formula 3 in 2010?

The future McLaren Formula 1 driver pipped him to third in the championship by just eight points.
