Weekend review and results round-up
This weekend was a moment of relative respite before the fireworks of the Formula 1 title run-in, and with most of the European series having finished their championship seasons
The DTM title battle is still going on, though, and Paul di Resta now holds a narrow advantage heading for the final rounds in Italy and China, having extended his winning run to three races with a consummate performance at Hockenheim.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup remains open too, despite Jimmie Johnson having edged back into his habitual points lead. He extended his cushion a little at Charlotte, though all the title combatants were overshadowed by race-winner Jamie McMurray on Saturday night.
Juho Hanninen didn't even have to turn up in Scotland to become Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion, so his win in the penultimate round was a happy bonus - while home favourites Guy Wilks and Kris Meeke both rued misfortunes while fighting for victory.
Casey Stoner remained unbeatable on home turf in MotoGP at Phillip Island, forcing newly-crowned champion Jorge Lorenzo to settle for a distant second place.
