Weekend review and results round-up
Valentino Rossi did not win in Germany, or even finish on the podium, but his return to MotoGP action just six weeks after breaking his leg was the most eye-catching story of the racing weekend
Casey Stoner's last-corner pass denied Rossi a sensational third place in his comeback race, while at the front it was Dani Pedrosa denying a Yamaha, as the Honda man brought Jorge Lorenzo's winning streak to an end.
It was a mixed bag of a weekend for championship leaders. Will Power continued his march towards the IndyCar title by keeping cool amid the usual Toronto mayhem, while Yvan Muller's race one win at Brands Hatch helped his World Touring Car lead.
But Formula 2 points leader Jolyon Palmer saw rival Dean Stoneman dominate race one at Brands - and then they tangled in race two, with Palmer coming off worst.
There was a change at the top in the Superleague Formula, with a disaster for Spurs' Craig Dolby at Zolder letting AC Milan assume the points lead. However in British Formula 3 Jean-Eric Vergne managed to extend his points cushion still further at Rockingham despite being below par in races two and three, where first-time winners Daniel McKenzie and Felipe Nasr triumphed.
