V8STAR proposes ASCAR joint promotions
Altfrid Heger, the promoter of the German-based V8STAR series, has again proposed to bring the 'silhouette' touring cars to the UK's Rockingham Motor Speedway oval. Heger has even suggested that the V8STAR cars could race against the ASCAR 'Days of Thunder' cars. "Our cars and the ASCARs are very similar in concept and lap within half a second of each other," he said. "I believe that together they could put on a good show."
If tentative plans for non-championship invitation races at the German track come to fruition, the two types of car could also race together on the Eurospeedway oval at Lausitz.
Rockingham turned away V8STAR MD Max Welti when he visited the UK venue to request a date almost three years ago. However, Heger is to meet with Rockingham CEO Ashley Pover to discuss his latest ideas.
Rockingham is open to the suggestions, according to a spokesman. "We're always looking at new ideas and are not discounting the possibility," he said. "Having upwards of 40 cars on the grid would make for an amazing spectacle."
